The federal layer

Every eligible system in Australia earns STCs (Small-scale Technology Certificates), which your installer typically applies as an up-front discount. From 2026 the Cheaper Home Batteries Program adds a separate discount for battery storage.

Victoria

  • Solar panel rebate of up to $1,400 still available
  • Battery interest-free loans closed to new applications in April 2026; batteries are now supported through the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program

Queensland

  • No general state rebate currently
  • Federal STC + battery rebate still apply

South Australia

  • The Home Battery Scheme closed in September 2022 and has no replacement
  • The federal battery discount still applies
  • Strong VPP (Virtual Power Plant) market
